The installing process: step-by-step
There are two main methods of installing window films.
A. Cut film to size (best on smaller windows and doors)
B. Cut film over size and trim on window (best for larger areas or when the film has a clear backing.
A.Cut film to size (best on smaller windows and doors)
1. Clean glass (making sure there is no dust left) 2. Measure glass 3. Lay frosting face down on flat surface (table etc) 4. Cut material to size....leaving 1-2mm gap between film and pane. 5. With frosting laying face down peel back the backing paper (on some frostings the clear backing paper is very thin) as you peel back the backing paper spray the adhesive side of the frosting with solution. Do not be afraid of getting the adhesive side wet....this gives you plenty of time to position the material. Note - The wetter the better 6. Spray window with water and soap mix 7. Place the frosting on the window and position 8. With a plastic squeege provided start from the centre pushing the water out towards the sides. Removing excess water with a sponge as you go.
Clean frosting with normal glass clean
B. Cut film over size and trim on window (best for larger areas or when the film has a clear backing.
1. Clean Glass (making sure there is no dust left) 2. Measure glass 3. Lay frosting face down on flat surface (table etc) 4. Cut material over size....by approx 50mm (will trim excess later). (push the water approx 20mm from the pane edge) 8. With a ruler and craft knife trim the film so there is a 1-2mm gap between the edge of the film and glass pane. 9. Again with the plastic squeege start from the centre pushing the water out towards the sides. (this time push water all the way until water comes out of the gap between the film and pane) Use a sponge to soak up the water as you go.
Finally ...Clean frosting with normal glass clean.
Tips: If your film has a clear backing it can be hard to start the separation. Take two pieces of tape and apply to a corner on either side. Still holding the tape pull them apart.... the clear backing and the film will separate.
